The life of being a furloughed girl...

If you’d had told me several months ago that I’d be off work for 3 months without actually losing my job then I would hug you so tight that you’d be prying me off of you.

I would’ve been researching places to travel, what a dream situation wow 3 months off work to do whatever the hell I want. South East Asia, Africa, South America, Europe road trip, the options of things to do in that time are endless. My actual dream was to have a job that lets me have a sabbatical for 3-6 months to do what I want and then return home like nothings changed and you can easily slot back in and resume as you were - and this could’ve been it.. except I am not on a sabbatical, I did not choose to have 3-6 months off work. We are in fact in the midst of a global pandemic.

So instead of telling you about all the fun and exciting new places to visit, I’ve compiled a list of the 10 stages you may (or may not, I don’t know we’re not all the same are we) go through whilst you are being furloughed in 2020.

QUARAN-TAG 2020

How are you attempting to maintain sanity? Honestly I don’t think I am, I’ve been on a few bike rides and runs though and they’re quite good. Are you quarantined with anyone? It’s just me hunny Show & Tell! Show off anything and everything you’ve made/accomplished during quarantine. A banana bread, a lemon drizzle cake, a completed jigsaw puzzle, can now French braid my hair. Last thing you purchased? I actually am struggling to remember this I know the last place was to the co-op but what I bought is beyond me… I think just a selection of essential groceries like bread and beer Favorite quarantine meme? Last person you texted? Show it coward!   My auntie lmao   Last person who texted you? Show it coward!  My mum lmao   Who is the last person you video called with? I don’t really have video calls unless it’s in a big group and then last Friday :-) What are you most excited to do when this is all over? Go out dancing and drink...

living alone in a GLOBAL PANDEMIC (not clickbait)

So if you didn’t already know - first of all, where have you been and how do I get there? - we’re in the middle  of a global pandemic, and it’s kinda crazy. Think all of our previous illness outbreaks (swine flu, foot & mouth, ebola eta) on steroids; it’s actually passed the point of being able to joke about it it’s that serious, hundreds are dying each day and apparently we’re not even over the worst of it yet. Let us go back 3-4 weeks, I was still working at go west and I remember our boss had gone over to Malaysia on business and in the office we were like WHY IS HE DOING THAT ?! Has he not seen the news? There’s this weird corona virus going round, he’s going to bring it home. Turns out that was the best of the situation and honestly it ain’t shit in Malaysia. He’d have been better off staying put by the looks of things now. But putting the virus aside for a moment. How am i? I hear you ask (noone asked holly..) by go to response is I’m fine. It’s funny whenever I say...

30 things to do before I turn 30

I turned 26 nearly 4 months ago now and it’s dawned on me how quickly 26 has actually come around. Life just passes by and if you don’t grab onto every opportunity possible you’ll miss it and be stuck in a rut with regrets for the rest of your life. So, I’ve decided to make a list of 30 things I should really try and do before I turn 30, I still have 4 years to go and I am by no means wishing my life away but it’s always nice to have something to look back on when you get there and see if you can actually tick anything off (hopefully everything). My twenties so far have been pretty good to me, I’ve had the chance to do things that most 26 year olds might not have and I genuinely am so grateful for the life I have lived.  Visit 30 countries, I’ve got 9 to go - I think its more than doable in 4 years. Solo trip in Europe - maybe an inter railing experience for 2 weeks. This could tie in very well with number 1. Go veggie for at least a year. I’m transitioning now, ...

Travelling in a group is easier but limited...

My experience with group travel So I am lucky enough that travelling the world is one of my most treasured hobbies, a bit of an expensive one but it’s the best one you simply can’t disagree. So considering I hadn’t been on a big trip since 2016 I thought this year was my year, so last Christmas I booked onto a trutravels tour group to Vietnam, this country has always fascinated me. From the pretty lanterns of Hoi An, the crazy windy roads of the Hai Van Pass and the beautiful sea coves around Halong Bay. I just knew this was the place I had to go. So, I booked 2 weeks off work and had everything planned to go but then life got flipped turned upside down and I actually got offered a new job in the tourism industry which if anyone doesn’t know I’ve been waiting for forever, so I really could not turn this down I just had to get my foot in the door now I had the chance - so upon accepting I told them about my holiday and they agreed that since I was missing part of their training ...

Solo travel is exhausting.

Some key moments about my 2 weeks solo travelling are (but certainly not limited to): Losing my passport in Kampot for an hour (that was not fun believe me) Getting ill in Siem Reap going to the doctors for them to charge me $300 for antibiotics, thanks hun i could've just got this at the bloody pharmacy. (Don't worry i'm going to claim on my travel insurance) Losing my phone in Koh Rong Samloem, just don't get as drunk as i do - i'm just a bit crazy and wild and free.  Jumping off the wrong side of a motorbike and getting burnt by the exhaust.. that thing kinda hurts i'm not going to lie It wasn't all bad though - i got to learn about the devasting history and culture, spend the afternoon as the funnest waterpark in Kampot, see the beautiful temples of Angkor Wat, 4 crazy nights in Pub Street, and experience a 3 person motorbike ride up Bokor Mountain (don't recommend, just learn to ride your own bloody scooter). - Day 1 o...
